Alan Fodge – Class of 1968

Alan was an outstanding all-around athlete in three sports in soccer, basketball, and baseball. He earned 10 varsity letters in these sports and served as co-captain of all three teams. On the soccer field, he was a two-time All-League selection who helped lead our 1965 soccer team to a 16-1 record while winning both the Monroe County division and Section V Class B titles. As a 4-year starter on our varsity baseball team, he was named 1st team All-County three consecutive years and was the first athlete in school history to accomplish that in 3 straight years. His outstanding pitching and hitting helped lead our Saints baseball team to two consecutive league titles in 1966 and 1967. He graduated with many school records that are all still among the best in school history today. This includes an amazing ERA of 0.42 in 1967, a batting average of .462 in 1968, and 19 career wins as a pitcher. In 1968, he was awarded the James Widener Memorial trophy, which at that time was given to the boy who in the judgement of the coaches was the most outstanding athlete of the year at our school. After high school, he went on to play 4 years of soccer and baseball at the University of Rochester and was co­-captain on both teams. At U of R, he was presented with the Walter Campbell trophy as the Most Valuable Player of the soccer team in 1970. He was also co-captain of their baseball team in 1971 and was presented with the Spike Garnish award as the teams’ Most Valuable Player.

Andre´ G. Fontenette – Class of 2000

Andre’ was a 3-sport athlete in football, basketball, and track & field. His greatest accomplishments came on the football field where he is known as one of the best receivers and kick returners in school history. As a 3-year starter on our varsity football team, he set many school records, some of which are still school records today. These include touchdown catches in one game with 3, touchdown catches in a season with 9, touchdown catches in a career with 13, receptions in one game with 10, receptions in a season with 31, career receptions with 66, yards receiving in a season with 486, kick returns for touchdowns in a season with 2, and kick returns for a touchdown in a career with 4. Due to his accomplishments, he was named 1st team All-County in 1998, 1st team All-Greater Rochester in 1999, and was selected to play in the 2000 Governor’s Bowl as a member of Golden 50 All-State team. On the basketball court, he also set and still holds our school record for most assists in one season with 113. His versatility was also seen in track & field, as he was named 1st team All-County and team MVP in 1998. He received several scholarship offers before accepting a scholarship to Syracuse University where he played football all four years. He played in every game during his final three seasons and played in the Insight.com Bowl in 2001 and the Champs Sports Bowl in 2004. In 2004, he was Syracuse’s co-recipient of the Ray Martino award for loyalty, enthusiasm and perseverance. Since college, he has gone on to coach both college and high school football.

Rich Rose – Class of 1965

Rich was an outstanding all-around athlete in three sports in soccer, basketball, and baseball. As only a sophomore in 1962, he led our soccer team in scoring with 14 points. In 1963, he helped lead our soccer team to win the Monroe County division title, a trip to the Section V finals, and a final record of 11-2-4. He captained our soccer team in 1964, while leading the Saints to another 11-win season. His talents led him to be named 1st team All-County in soccer for two consecutive years. In basketball, he was also named 1st team All-County for two consecutive years and was the leading scorer of our 1963-64 team that went 15-4 and won the division title. He scored 375 points that season which was a school record at that time and is still one of the highest point totals for one season in school history. This was an average of 19.7 points per game, which is also one of the highest for one season in school history. He scored 30 points in one game in 1964 which was 2nd all-time in school history at that time. He set many other basketball school records including most assists in one season with 86, and most assists in a career with 146. Those are still in the top 10 all-time today. His 739 career points was 2nd all-time in school history upon graduation and is currently 8th all-time. His accolades led him to be awarded Churchville-Chili’s Outstanding Athlete award in 1965. After high school, he went on to play soccer at Roberts Wesleyan College where he played in the NAIA Final 4. His success there led him to be inducted into the Roberts Wesleyan Athletic Hall of Fame in 1995. He also served as a high school and college basketball official for 26 years.

Adam C. Steinwachs – Class of 1995

Adam is one of the most outstanding indoor track and track & field athletes in our school history. In indoor track, he was an All-County selection for 3 consecutive seasons and was named team Co-MVP in 1993. He was a contributing member of our 1992 indoor track team that won the Section V Class B championship. To date that is the only boys indoor track team in school history to win a Section V title. Adam was the Section V Class B indoor track champion in the triple jump in 1993. He set several school records including the pole vault at 14’ 4” which was also a Section V record. He also set our indoor track school record in the triple jump at 47’ 3.5” which is still a school record today. This jump was set at the 1995 indoor state championship meet at Cornell University where Adam finished 2nd. In track & field, Adam was an All-County selection for 2 consecutive years and was a contributing member of our 1993 and 1994 track & field teams that won division titles. He was the Section V Class AA track & field champion in the triple jump in 1994. In 1995, he was the Monroe County champ in the triple jump, was the Section V Class AA track & field champion in the pole vault and triple jump and was named the team MVP. He set 2 individual track & field school records that are still school records today in the triple jump at 47' 10.5" and pole vault at 14’ 2”. He was also a member of 2 relay teams that set school records that are still school records in the 4x100m and 4x400m. In 1995, Adam was selected as the Churchville-Chili Male Athlete of the Year. Adam went on to Ashland University where he was a member of 7 conference championship teams in indoor track and track & field. He was also a silver medalist in the decathlon in the 2003 Empire State games. He went on to become a very successful track coach in college, coaching numerous conference champions, All-Americans, and national champions. He was also named NAIA Women’s Regional Track & Field Coach of the Year 3 times while coaching at Roberts Wesleyan, and Atlantic 10 Track & Field Coach of the Year 3 times while coaching at the University of Dayton. He left coaching to join the US Army where he was awarded a bronze star.

Jeff Winden – Class of 1990

Jeff is one of the best runners in school history. He set school records and won Section V titles in three different sports: cross country, indoor track and track & field. To date, he is the only male in school history to win an individual Section V title in cross country, as he was the Section V Class BB champion in 1989. He almost accomplished this twice as he finished 2nd in sectionals as a sophomore in 1987. He was named 1st team All-County in cross country for three consecutive seasons and was the leading runner of our 1988 cross country team that won the Section V Class A title. In both the 1988 and 1989 seasons, he came in 1st place in every single cross country league race and finished in 6th place overall in the NY state finals in 1989. Also in 1989, he was named to the All Section V cross country team, 3rd team Northeast region, and 2nd team All-State. In indoor track, he was the Section V Class B champion in the 3200m and 1600m in 1990 and was named to the All Section V team that year. He set 3 individual school records and was on 2 relay teams that set school records in indoor track. All these records remained in place until just a few years ago. In track & field, Jeff was the county champion and the Section V Class B champion in the 3200m in 1990. Due to all of his accomplishments, he was named the 1990 Churchville-Chili Male Athlete of the Year. He went on to participate in cross country, indoor track, and track & field at SUNY Fredonia where he earned 12 varsity letters. He was named All-American in cross country two times and All-American in indoor track twice. He was the New York State Collegiate Track & Field Conference champion in the 3000m for 3 straight years and he helped lead the team to be crowned as the SUNYAC track & field champions for 4 consecutive years. He also won individual SUNYAC titles including the indoor 5000m two straight years, the indoor 1500m and 3000m, and the 3000m steeplechase in track & field. He was the recipient of the Dr. Sam Molnar Award Winner, an award given to the top student-athlete in all SUNY schools in 1994. He was inducted into the Fredonia Athletic Hall of Fame in 2002 and has served as a high school cross country and track & field coach at Greece Arcadia since 2000.
